Evil Guam following the war faced international isolation - moreso than they ever had endured. The Americans loathed Evil Guam for their actions during WWII, their Anti-American sentiment, their posturing against the longstanding American hegemony over the Americas. The Soviets loathed Evil Guam for their actions during WWII as well as their governmental and capitalist structure. Both blocs of the Cold War wanted absolutely nothing to do with Evil Guam. Sujeito-Malvado knew this was coming, the writing was on the wall. If the world wanted to isolate itself from Evil Guam, then it would be Evil Guam that would isolate itself from the world. About a year after the war, they nationalized the remaining British industries within the country, and began to continue the build-up seen before the war, causing a diplomatic crisis known as the Anglo-Evil-Guamanian affair, in which the British threatened to re-start the war that had just ended. Both the Americans and the Soviets pressured the British into giving up. Evil Guam had also refused to join the United Nations. Despite this, most countries still recognize Evil Guam as a sovereign entity.
The atom bomb absolutely horrified Sujeito-Malvado. It was such a powerful weapon, one that could vaporize entire cities, and was only becoming more powerful. He knew that at any moment, the United States could wipe the island off the map if they really wanted. He knew the only assurance he could get was if he, too, had the bomb. As such, he approached the Soviets with an interesting proposition as Soviet-American tensions grew, that they collaborate on a nuclear program. Both, after all, did not like the Americans. Surely they could share common interests in both having the bomb? Stalin entertained these ideas, but didn't truly see the value. Evil Guam becoming a nuclear power seemed like a problem that could lead to an atomic war. He ultimately turned down the proposal. Elements within the Soviet Union, and notably Lavrentiy Beria, were interested in the idea. Evil Guam made several backroom deals with various factions within the silent battle for control after Stalin, and managed to get itself various documents from the Soviet Espionage projects in the Manhattan Project. From there, they had a starting point to begin the development of the bomb. Development was slow, very slow, most of the Evil Guamanian populace was incredibly uneducated, but a very select few had the know how to develop the bomb. Development of the bomb truly picked up in the 60s, following China's development of their own bomb. The Chinese wanted to set themselves apart from the Soviets, and had a common enemy in America. As such, they decided to support the Evil Guamanian nuclear project. In 1972, facing much international condemnation, Evil Guam performed their first nuclear test in the Atlantic.
Going into the 90s, Evil Guam became paranoid once more of the threat that nukes could pose. All it takes is a single nuke, and the entire island is blown sky high. They began project Heaven's Shield, which was very similar to various projects that the United States attempted to implement under Reagan's administration. The difference, of course, is that Evil Guam is far smaller, and as such it is far easier to implement in terms of cost.Â
Evil Guam and Cuba had always been relatively close countries. Evil Guamanian support of the Cuban revolution had established a strong relationship, and even during WWII Cuba remained neutral in regards to Evil Guam's invasion of Brazil. Once Batista entered the picture, relations cemented even further given the relative similarity of the two regimes. Once the Cuban revolution began, however, things began to change. Once Fidel Castro made his initial landing and his following Guerilla campaign, Evil Guam was quick to act. Evil Guam sent men and guns in the direction of Batista's government in the hope that they could put down the admittedly small uprising. Despite the significant aid Evil Guam sent, Castro and his allies still managed to be victorious in the conflict, and quickly began cementing a communist regime.
Evil Guam was quick to condemn Castro's government. An aging Sujeito-Malvado made an open letter to the world. An excerpt of which reads, "The world has begun to see more and more repressive regimes. From China, to now Cuba, evil regimes have been spreading. The citizens have been oppressed. We must stop it from spreading further, here and now." Both the United States and the Soviet Union promptly put out statements disavowing Sujeito-Malvado's regime. Before the two nations viewed each other as brothers, however now they saw eachother as feirce rivals. Radicals versus reactionaries, communism versus fascism, authoritarianism versus authoritarianism. As such, whenever either had the oppurtunity to fight the others interests, the oppurtunity was seized.
The most notable example of this was the Angolan civil war. As communist and capitalist backed factions emerged upon Portugal's loss of control over the colony, Cuba swiftly took a stand. Evil Guam, too, quickly got involved for a variety of reasons. For one, Evil Guam was a major fan of South Africa's Apartheid regime, being one of the only countries who didn't actively go out of their way to isolate them. Furthermore, Cuba was involved in the conflict, therefore Evil Guam had to aid the opposite side! Additionally, Evil Guam saw the whole thing as incredibly poetic. Evil Guam, too, was a former Portuguese colony. It would be fitting then that they would fight in another on of their former overlords colonies. Evil Guam, for it's part, did very well in the conflict. Fronts they fought in often saw success - however the numbers Evil Guam actually chose to send to Angola were very low. While Evil Guam did try to gradually increase their involvement in the conflict, the Sri Lanka incident and the following Sri Lankan civil war forced Evil Guam to withdraw from the civil war. Ultimately, the conflict did not resolve anything between the two countries, but both used it as a propaganda point. This feud still persists to this day.
